TENTERDEN NEIGHBOURHOOD PLAN

Tenterden Town Council held an eight week consultation on the pre-submission draft Neighbourhood Plan (June 2021).
The consultation closed on 18 August 2021.
The consultation documents can be viewed by visiting the Tenterden Neighbourhood Plan website.
The Parish Council are now reviewing the comments received and preparing the Submission Version of the Plan, which will be formally consulted on in due course.

TENTERDEN COMMUNITY LAND TRUST submitted a detailed response, outlining the need for genuinely affordable accommodation based on our Housing Needs Survey. We are pleased to provide this for you below:

LEAVE A LASTING LEGACY TO YOUR COMMUNITY

Picture
The recent Housing Needs Survey carried out with the support of Ashford Borough Council and Kent Community Housing Hub, demonstrated a clear need for genuinely affordable housing at a size and cost that allows allows our young people to remain in the community where they grew up and downsizing seniors and key workers to find a place to live.

As we are all aware, the current criteria for 'affordable' homes still makes the provisions demanded for new development, out of reach for the majority of these groups, due to the high cost of land and house market values. Therefore, perhaps one of our key strategies for a scheme that truly benefits our community is via what is called a Rural Exception Site.

The National Planning Policy Framework defines Rural Exception Sites (RES) as small sites used for affordable housing in perpetuity where sites would not normally be used for housing. A Community Land Trust is the best vehicle for delivering this key requirement.

If you have land in the area that may be suitable - a field or paddock, a large garden perhaps - and would like to leave a lasting legacy to the community please get in touch in complete confidence. Contact details are here.
